WHY ISN'T MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (SSN) ON MY UCARD?

To protect your privacy! The University of Utah uses the 8 digit University ID number for students, staff and faculty to protect your Social Security number.

WHAT ARE ALL THE NUMBERS ON MY UCARD?

UCard/Hospital Badge: The U number on the front or bottom of your card is your University ID (UNID). This number will not change as long as you are associated with the University. The 16-digit number on the back identifies you within the University Kronos/Payroll system and may change if your card is reported lost or stolen. The number following the 2* is your prox number.

WHERE DID MY ID NUMBER COME FROM?

The 8 digit ID number is a unique original number assigned by the University. This 8 digit ID number is intended for University of Utah purposes only. This number should be protected and not given out to others.

WHY DO I NEED TO SHOW A PICTURE ID, INCLUDING PASSPORT, VALID DRIVERS LICENSE OR NON DRIVER ID AND BE CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN ORDER TO GET MY UCARD?

The University requires some form of photo identification to ensure that a University of Utah photo ID card is made for the correct person. This is a visual verification; no information is recorded from the picture ID. This procedure is designed to protect the privacy of each student, faculty and staff’s records at the University of Utah.

HOW PRIVATE IS MY INFORMATION I GIVE TO THE UCARD OFFICE?

In accordance with applicable laws and regulations, the University maintains the privacy of student information and does not release any information except as permitted by law. Also, University contracts with third parties and federal laws prohibit third parties from releasing student-specific information to any other party, and from using such information for any purpose other than that specified in the contract.

DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR MY UNIVERSITY OF UTAH UCARD?

Currently the University provides the first UCard/Hospital badge free to all faculty, staff and for-credit students. If the card is lost or damaged, or if a name change is required, there will be a replacement cost.

IF I LOSE MY UCARD, WILL I LOSE THE UCASH STORED ON IT?

Not necessarily. Cardholders should treat their UCash the same as cash. The card should not be lent to anyone or left in an unsafe place. Immediately notifying the UCard office at (801) 581-CARD (2273) or via the UCard web site will help preserve any unused UCash.

WHY SHOULD I HAVE A UNIVERSITY OF UTAH UCARD?

Students, Faculty and Staff are entitled to privileges at the Campus Stores, Campus Library System, Cafeterias, Sporting Events, and Campus Recreation. These privileges will not be accessible without a UCard. Your UCard is also the only form of ID accepted at the University testing center.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY CARD DOESN'T WORK?
